"Writer's Block."
Fred Krueger looked up from his morning paper and cereal, one eyebrow cocked curiously. Kira, his "Business Partner", sat across the table filling out forms, while writing what appeared to be an essay.
"Excuse me?" He mumbled through a mouthful of chewed up corn flakes .
Kira looked up briefly enough to look at him with distain.
"That's disgusting."
She grabbed her glasses from their place next to her elbow and put them on.
Fred's nod went unnoticed as he gulped down the remaining flakes in his mouth, and started again.
"Well sorry I'm only human- I- er- mean Dream Demon."
"I meant eating corn flakes without sugar on them, but talking with your mouth full is equally disgusting."
Freddy looked back down at his cereal bowl sadly. His assistant had been acting strange lately, and this talk of forms, registration, and higher knowledge left a bad taste in his mouth…Never mind, that was just the coffee.  At any rate, he wasn't pleased as he read over the application's title.
"Transferment of Work Records?" He read quizzically.
Kira looked up startled.
"What?"
Freddy grabbed the papers in the young woman's hand.
"This. What is it?"
Kira sighed, and yanked the set of papers from his firm grasp.
"LET GO!"
"NOT. UNTIL…YOU ….TELL ME….WH-WHAT'S GOING…ON!"
Freddy's resistance on relinquishing the papers was fierce and took all of Kira's strength just to gain as firm a grip as her Dream Demon boss.
"Sir, I just need a change of pace…I need the opportunity to do just as much as you. I fully plan to take charge at some point…and…"  Kira's brown eyes went wide with fear for a moment as Freddy clenched and, in turn, unclenched his jaw.
"And what Kid?"
Kira's eyebrows arched in surprise as the mention of her old nickname sparked memories of good times.  She hadn't heard that name in so long. She only paused slightly at the memories, before finishing her sentence.
"Sir…I don't mean to be rude, or ungrateful-You've taken me in and taught me everything you know, but there's still so much more!" Kira said. Her eyes were shining with an inner light. "I just want the chance to work with someone who has a…well, a different approach to things. You understand…Don't you?"
Freddy sat back unsure how to answer his assistant. At times like this, he wished he hadn't killed Loretta…Okay… that was a lie...Killing her was the most fun he had ever had. When he zoned back in he noticed Kira gazing at him intently-trying to read his expression and body language so she would know how to proceed with the conversation. Freddy rocked back in the kitchen chair, gathered his breakfast dishes, piled them in the sink, and quietly grabbed his jacket.
"Sir?" Kira asked in confusion.
"I will discuss this later. Until further notice, you are going to clean the boiler room tonight-top to bottom-no excuses."
"What?! I will not!" Kira protested slamming her orange juice glass down so hard it shattered. Freddy turned around instantly and marched dangerously toward his pupil. Her nostrils flared in rage and her jaw was set completing her furious stance. Fred glared down at her. Suddenly he took her chin in his hands and pressed his fingers roughly into the sides of her cheeks.
"Now you listen to me-" He gruffly mumbled in harsh tones, "you will clean this up, or else-"  He pressed his glove's index blade into the girl's throat, "you will suffer very unmerciful consequences. Am I clear young lady?"
Kira's look of blatant defiance had given way to a softer expression of submission, and she stood  softly sobbing.
"I-I'm s-s-sorry Si-sir…" She breathed anxiously sinking to her knees and plucking glass shards from the archaic linoleum floor. Fred looked down at the pitiful young woman cleaning the floor with the hem of her dress as she sniffled softly.
"Ouch!" Kira whispered as she pulled a piece of glass from her hand. Fred flinched as he saw the glass stained to the tip with blood. Then, with as much compassion as a mother hen , Fred knelt next to the girl nursing her wound. She shied away as he put his arm around her.
"St-stop…i-i-it." She mumbled wiping tears out of the corners of her eyes.
"Shhh…I'm sorry Kid."  Fred said stumbling over the words. He wrapped her in a hug and she let him. The pair sat there for a long while, neither speaking, Kira crying slightly, and Fred too looking at the girl in his arms just as troubled as he'd been that morning.
"Kid…Calm down…it's alright princess…I didn't mean to be so harsh, but damn it, you just get so worked up. I'm the adult. Not you.  You had NO business speaking to me that way. Do you understand?"
Kira looked up at him with her tear streaked face and mumbled something .
"What?"
"Yes sir…I'm sorry." She mumbled sheepishly.
Fred smiled, helped he to her feet and took care of her hand.
"Now. When I get back home, we'll discuss this transfer…okay?"
Kira nodded.
"All right."
Kira didn't move from her spot in the kitchen until the front door shut. She shuffled to her chair, and slumped over her essay yet again. She looked over her title and her opening paragrapghs, then at the topic again.
"Name four reasons you should be accepted into the Krueger Academy 2010"
"Hmm…Well, here goes nothing." Kira mumbled excitedly as she began her final paragraph.
